A House without Walls (A Place Called Home)

by Lies Amin Lestari

Every body does need a place to live in
It does not need to be big
It does not need to be luxurious
It does not need to be well-furnished
But it is a must that those who are there are happy

In town, there is a place in which every body is welcome
It is not big
It is not luxurious
It is not well-furnished
Even, it has no walls like any other houses

Those who study there may learn things comprehensively
Those who sit there may discuss things securely
Those who sleep there may rest peacefully
Those who stay there shall not worry about their safety

The house is for those with veils and sarongs
But it welcomes those with crosses and rosarios
It also invites those with malas to stay
It allows those with incense to pray

It is a home without walls
It is every body's home

  1. A nice poem, indeed. It speaks strongly about the importance of tolerance to differences.
